About Us
The Department of Circular Economy (GOZ) is made up of experienced experts specializing in the implementation of innovative solutions in companies striving to achieve sustainable and efficient development. Our mission is to support companies in introducing GOZ, minimizing the impact of enterprises on the environment and implementing modern technologies based on the use of renewable energy sources (RES) and waste, taking into account economic aspects.
As part of the implementation of the principles of the Closed Circuit Economy, we have many years of experience and competence in the following areas:
Chemical recycling
- Thermochemical (pyrolysis, gasification, hydrothermal processes) conversion of waste to produce high-quality products: biofuels,H2, SNG, methanol, biocrude, bitumen components and plasticizers.
- Recovery and valorization of microspheres.
- Recovery of critical elements and valuable salts from waste (wastewater, ash).
Decarbonization
- Developing dedicated strategies for decarbonizing enterprises and achieving zero-carbon.
- Production and use of biocarbonizers (bioreducers) in metallurgy as fossil substitutes.
- Market analyses of waste availability with concepts for its efficient use.
- Energy and emission measurements and analyses.
- Dedicated solutions for the heating sector: heat pumps, high-efficiency cogeneration, energy efficiency, use of biomass, biogas and waste.
Hydrogen (H2)
- H2 generation using biomass and waste gasification technologies.
- H2 generation using reforming and pyrolysis technologies.
Renewable energy sources (RES)
- Integration of existing energy systems with RES.
- Storage of electricity and heat.
- Development of energy concepts with financial analysis for energy clusters.
Implementation of modern technologies
- Pre-investment works: conceptual studies, feasibility studies, ZZK, KPP, valuations, baseline projects.
- Technical and technological consulting.
- Technology and installation audits – technical assistance, technology verification and assessment, but also technological due diligence.
Thermochemical conversion of biomass and waste
- Thermal Waste Conversion Plants
- Polygeneration
- Biorefineries
Purification and upgrading of process gases
- Purification of process gas from pyrolysis and gasification processes for energy applications: filtration, removal of tars, S, N….
- Process gas upgrading to syngas: deep gas purification, methane conversion, CO/H2 ratio adjustment,CO2 removal
- Purification of industrial gases (e.g., post-reduction)
Our selected achievements
- We have conducted numerous conceptual designs, feasibility studies for the construction of the Thermal Waste Conversion Plant (ITPO).
- On the basis of our own experience and research, we have designed a plant for the concentration and crystallization of brine metallurgical wastewater.
- We have developed three innovative solid fuel gasification pilot plants. Our technological park is equipped with, among other things, an installation for the pressure gasification of solid fuels in a circulating fluidized bed, an installation for the atmospheric gasification of solid fuels in a circulating fluidized bed, and a GazEl reactor dedicated to biomass gasification, a dry and wet process gas treatment system.
- We have developed and implemented on an industrial scale the first smokeless fuel production technology in the country.
- We designed and launched the first and currently the only demonstration installation in Poland that allows cogeneration of heat and electricity from wood biomass (capacity 1.5 MWt, location: Paruszowice; Syngaz S.A.).
- We have developed an innovative electrocoagulation reactor to reduce the amount of chemical reagents used and improve the efficiency of wastewater treatment (municipal and industrial);
- We have developed a comprehensive method for the treatment and evaporation of industrial wastewater to recover process water and reduce the salinity of wastewater discharged into the environment (mining and metallurgical industries).
- We have developed decarbonization strategies forthe heating sector (including for the city of Nowy Sącz).
- We have developed a concept for the implementation of a large-scale biocarbon production facility in the metallurgical industry.
- We developed a concept for the use of petrochemical waste for the production of new chemical products.
- We developed an innovative solution for the process of heat storage in a variable capacity storage facility (P.438020).
- We cooperate with Polish and foreign scientific and research centers, including Silesian University of Technology, Stanislaw Staszic Academy of Mining and Metallurgy in Krakow, University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, University of Catania, Sapienza University of Rome, VSB - Technical University of Ostrava, TU WIEN. The effects of cooperation have been presented, among others, in joint scientific publications.
- We have developed methodologies for testing microspheres thanks to which we support their use in a wide range of applications (construction, mining, foundry or composite materials).
- We participated in the design and verified the country's first dedicated Testchem installation for solid secondary fuel sampling (Fortum Silesia SA)
- We participated in the design and verified a dedicated installation of PONAR company for sampling of biomass for energy purposes (EC Białystok SA)
- We verified the correct operation of BMH and Metso's biomass sampler before commissioning the installation (EC Bielystok SA)
- We validated Metso MR analyzer for biomass supply accounting system (ZEW Kogeneracja Wrocław).
- We have developed a procedure for sampling solid fuels and waste for settlements with suppliers for several power and heavy industry plants.
- We have developed a Good Engineering Practices Guide for: Dust removal technologies for hot process gases.
The Department of Circular Economy is enthusiastic about collaborating with industry and other research institutions, including foreign entities. Our priority is to build effective partnerships that support the achievement of ambitious goals in the area of sustainable development.
