New scientific publication by the HESS team

We are pleased to announce that an article by Energies magazine has been published by T. Spietz, S. Dobras, K. Kulik, R. Fryza and A. Czardybon, entitled Experimental Comparison of Sensible and Latent Heat Storage in a Packed-Bed Thermal Energy Storage System (Energies 2026, 19(13), 3196).

The publication presents the results of experimental studies comparing two heat storage solutions. The analysis was carried out on sensible heat storage using a basalt bed and latent heat storage with the use of capsules filled with phase change material (PCM) – Solar Salt. The results provide important information on the efficiency of both solutions, their performance characteristics and potential applications in high-temperature energy storage systems.

The article is available in the Open Access formula.

The publication was created as part of the project „Hybrid Energy Storage System Using Post-Mining Infrastructure” (HESS, contract no.10111280). The project is co-financed by the Coal and Steel Research Fund (RFCS) and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
