HESS project final seminar
On 22 June 2026, the final seminar of the project „Hybrid energy storage system using post-mining infrastructure” (acronym: HESS, Grant Agreement No. 10111280) was held at the Institute of Fuel and Energy Technology (ITPE). The project is co-funded by the Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) and the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The event brought together representatives of all project consortium partners, who presented the results achieved during the project implementation: KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology, Silesian University of Technology, VSB – Technical University of Ostrava (Czech Republic), Premogovnik Velenje d.o.o. (Slovenia), and the Institute of Energy and Fuel Processing Technology (ITPE).
The seminar was open to participants and provided an excellent opportunity to summarize the project’s achievements and exchange knowledge and experience on innovative energy storage solutions based on post-mining infrastructure.
A particularly engaging part of the programme was the visit to ITPE’s Clean Technologies Centre, where participants had the opportunity to explore selected research facilities and technological solutions related to the project’s scope. This visit was met with great interest and very positive feedback from the attendees, providing an excellent conclusion to the seminar.
The final seminar also provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of international and interdisciplinary cooperation in developing new solutions for the energy transition of mining regions. The results achieved within the HESS project confirm that post-mining infrastructure may represent an important resource for the development of modern energy storage systems.
The organizers would like to thank all project partners, speakers and seminar participants for their active involvement, valuable discussion and contribution to the implementation of the HESS project.
