Second Project Meeting „Hybrid energy storage system using post-mininginfrastructure” (HESS)

On April 24, 2024, a meeting of the project entitled „Hybrid energy storage system using post-mining infrastructure” (acronym HESS) was held at the leader’s headquarters – ITPE. Representatives of all project partners took part: Silesian University of Technology, KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology, VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, Premogovnik Velenje d.o.o. from Slovenia and the Institute of Energy and Fuel Processing Technology (ITPE). The HESS project is co-financed by the European Commission under the Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) Program, contract number 10111280.

The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the results of the work received in the range of WP.2. Identification of post-mining infrastructure for use in the Hybrid Energy Storage System and to confirm the achievement of the milestone no 1. (MS.1.): Recognition of mine shafts and water reservoirs.
12 mine shafts from 3 countries were selected with minimum storage capacity of 10 MWh meeting specific criteria set out in the multicriteria assessment and cubic capacity above 10 000 m3: one pair of the shafts from Slovenia: 2 shafts, two pairs of shafts from Czech Republic: 4 shafts; three pairs of shafts of the Polish Mines: 6 shafts.

Progress in the implementation of work under WP4, WP5 was presented and discussed.
