The 7th International Conference on Energy and Responsibility – EnRe 2026

On 19 May 2026, the 7th International Conference on Energy and Responsibility – EnRe 2026 was held at the Faculty of Energy Technology, University of Maribor, in Velenje, Slovenia.

During the conference, the results of the project “Hybrid Energy Storage System Using Post-Mining Infrastructure” (HESS, Grant Agreement No. 10111280) were presented. The project is funded by the Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS).

The annual EnRe conference brings together researchers, experts, representatives of industry, and local communities to exchange knowledge and best practices in the fields of energy, environmental protection, and sustainable development. This year, the event attracted more than 100 participants from five countries. The 2026 edition focused on the key challenges related of the energy transition towards 2035, with particular emphasis on the transformation of coal-mining regions and the development of district heating systems.

As part of the conference programme, dr Sergiej Jamnikar (Premogovnik Velenje) delivered a presentation entitled “Results of R&D project HESS – Hybrid Energy Storage System in post-mining infrasdtructure”, co-authored by Sergej Jamnikar, Gregor Jeromel and Janez Rošer. The presentation highlighted the project’s objectives, key achievements and potential contribution to the sustainable transpormation of post-mining regions.
