ON November 7, 2023 kick-off meeting of the project entitled “Hybrid energy storage system using post-mining infrastructure” with the acronym HESS was held as part of the KOMTECH conference "Mining in the Age of Green Transformation" in Szczyrk. The project is implemented with the support of EU funds from the European Commission under the Research Fund for Coal and Steel Program (no. 101112380, RFCS-2022).
The meeting was attended by representatives of five units participating in the project, namely: Institute of Fuel and Energy Technology, KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology, Silesian University of Technology, Premogovnik Velenje d.o.o. and VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.
The aim of the HESS project is to develop a Hybrid Energy Storage System using post-mining infrastructure, consisting of Pumped Storage Hydroelectricity System, Compressed Gas – Air/CO2 Energy Storage System and Thermal Energy Storage.
At the meeting, formal matters of the HESS project implementation were discussed, the most important project details were established in order to achieve the declared key milestones and project results. The results of work under tasks WP1 and WP2 of the HESS project were presented and discussed.
