On 23-25 September 2026, the 9th International Conference Contemporary Problems of Thermal Engineering – CPOTE 2026 was held in Kraków, Poland. During the conference, Janusz Lasek, representing the Institute of Energy and Fuel Processing Technology, delivered a presentation entitled “Operational assessment of hybrid energy storage systems integrated with post-mining infrastructure under day-ahead market conditions”, based on results obtained within the HESS project – Hybrid Energy Storage System using post-mining infrastructure (No. 101112380). CPOTE 2026 focused on current challenges in energy and thermal engineering, including energy storage and management, integrated energy systems, hydrogen technologies, renewable energy sources, modelling, optimisation, and environmental assessment.

The presentation addressed the operational and economic assessment of energy storage technologies integrated with post-mining infrastructure, using the Budryk coal mine as a case study and considering Day-Ahead Market (DAM) conditions. CO₂-based energy storage, compressed air energy storage (CAES), and pumped-storage hydropower (PSH) were analysed, with particular attention to the influence of storage technology and capacity on system operation and economic performance.

The results presented at the conference were also included in the conference proceedings in a paper authored by Krzysztof Głód, Krzysztof Supernok, Agata Czardybon, and Janusz Lasek titled: „Operational assessment of hybrid energy storage systems integrated with post-mining infrastructure under day-ahead market conditions”.
