HESS PROJECT MEETING
On January 12, 2026, a meeting of the project „Hybrid energy storage system using post-mining infrastructure” was held at the leader’s headquarters – Institute of Energy and Fuel Processing Technology (ITPE). The meeting was attended by representatives of five entities involved in the project, including: KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology (Poland), Silesian University of Technology (Poland), VSB – Technical University of Ostrava (Czech Republic) Premogovnik Velenje d.o.o. (Slovenia) and ITPE (Poland).
The main objective of the meeting was to discuss the results of the research carried out in work package’s: WP3. „Energy storage in pumped storage systems”, WP4. „Energy storage in compressed gas systems”, WP5. “Heat storage in post-mining infrastructure” and WP6. “Hybridisation of energy storage systems in post-mining infrastructure”.
The following presentations were made at the meeting:
- The pumped storage systems in mine shafts – P. Matusiak (KOMAG)
- Baseline condition of the reference shafts – K. Kołodziej (SUT)
- Lining materials selection and properties – K. Kołodziej (SUT)
- Tests of corrosivity, erosivity and liquid permeability of concrete samples coated with Sikagard coatings – K. Supernok (ITPE)
- Experimental and numerical performance characteristics of TES tanks (SUT installation) – M. Jurczyk
- Results of research on heat storage in ITPE. Numerical modelling of latent heat storage systems – T. Spietrz, K. Kulik (ITPE)
- Integration of particular components of the HESS – J. Lasek (ITPE)
- Energy router software progress – D. Markusik (KOMAG)
